Fiera ecologica

We woke up this holiday morning (Immacolata Concezione) and the square at the end of our street (SS Annunziatta) was transformed into an ecological fair where they sold all sorts of homemade products.

There were not only things for sale, but there was  group of ecologists that produced several street shows, one mime, some story telling. They even danced and made everyone laugh.

The one with the sun glasses and the one with the checkered shirt were the two clowns that made everyone laugh. The sign says "The Earth is not for sale". In the background to it all is the Ospedale degli innocenti (construction started in 1419). The blue della Robbia "babies" have been looking down from this arcade since 1490!

As in all things Italians, there were activities planned for i bambini. The Italians seem to integrate children in all activities much better than we do. Beside painting, there was toy car racing.

Above, the Italian Ciliac Association which had a display booth where they handed out gluten-free cookies.

There were many woven things, home-made soap, vegetables, pottery, cheese makers, wool in bulk etc.

A guy was giving a demonstration of a wool carding machine. The machine is in front of him on the table, and he is getting more wool from the blue bag. In front of the machine are head gears knitted with the carded wool. Next to him is a spinning wheel.

There was a small scale wine maker, a shoemaker working on a pair.

Lorne, who has a much better sense of smell than I do, said there was a whiff on marijuana in the air. Chianti was sold by the glass (1 euro for a generous serving). A good time was had by all.
