There are a great many places to visit in Florence, but one of the nicest things is just walking around and noticing how people live. For instance, these three balconies covered by a single wisteria. It must be quite nice in spring when the long blooms hang down and in summer when the foliage provides shade.
Or this little neighborhood park that has a Christmas tree in the middle of the lawn (an plaque honoring Fleming, who discovered penicillin).
It is locked up at night (below photo of the gate taken from inside the park).
We were greeted by the park superintendent who was very friendly.
He had just been brushed and was obviously not feral, but in various places in the city, we have seen boxes that were set out especially as shelters for feral cats! Here are two of them. Each has a tray with a mattress in it. There is also food on the right, under shelter.
You also get numerous glimpses of gardens or courtyard, like this orange tree that grows above the wall of this garden.
Sometimes, what you can glimpse through a gate left ajar is a cloister.
There are many loggias on top floors that must be very nice in summer.
Finally there are also bits of humour like this red dog with sunglasses looking through the open window, or is it a pig?

The red dog looks like a French bulldog but I love the humor as well as the kindness of the shelters for the feral cats. :o)
